Have you ever wanted to have some fun with the landscaping in your backyard? A common theme for the backyard is a tropic paradise, and it’s easier than you might think to transform your yard into an island getaway. With the right plants, solar water fountains, specialized décor and ambience, it’s possible to do it in just a few days at most.

Tiki torches are a great way to add an island feel to the backyard. Make sure that you use them properly, and that you read the instructions. Since they are basically fire on a stick, you want to have a way of extinguishing them quickly. Island décor that you can place on the fence is another great way of easily evoking the island mood. Make sure that your island theme matches too – you may not want to mix Hawaiian themes with those from the Caribbean! One or two nice solar water fountains can really help to seal the illusion of having your own island getaway, especially with the sound they provide.

If you want to be able to enjoy your solar water fountains even after the sun has gone down, you should buy those that have a battery option. Some of the fountains have batteries that can store the solar energy that the fountain collects. Other fountains may have an AC adapter that you can use when the sun has set. If you choose this option, make sure that you have the fountain close enough to an outlet so that you don’t have to move it every time the sun goes down!

When you’ve finished with the landscaping in the backyard and added your solar water fountains, consider having some people over for a party. There’s nothing like relaxing with a few friends in the backyard, watching the sun as it sets, and listening to the soft sound of a fountain.

To accentuate the feel of a tropical island you can have drinks with umbrellas in them, fresh fruit as appetizers, and as many different types of island food as you can make. For the music at your party, consider getting a CD of jungle sounds, or play island themed music. Of course, if you do too wonderful a job on turning your backyard into a tropical island, you will have to endure all of your friends’ jokes about Gilligan’s Island, Lost, smoke monsters, and coconut telephones!
